Route 66 Australia was established in Melbourne all the way back in 1983.  With a jaw-dropping range of US vintage clothes, western boots, 501s, Raybans and other primo goods, Route 66 was the first dedicated retail outlet of its type in Australia, and quickly became more than just a success.  Word of the sexy sales staff, cool vibe and boss tunes in-store spread among hepcats and kittens and a cult was born.

In 1989 Route 66 Sydney swung open its doors, and a second Melbourne store followed in 2002.  Twenty-two years later, customers old and new are still flocking to the stores for a fix.  These days, a trip to Route 66’s ‘Garage’ store at Prahran or the ‘location location’ City store can offer you exclusive threads & accessories from brands such as TUK, Dickies, Wheels and Dollbaby, Lucky 13, Rockmount, Felon, Stop Staring, Gearhead and of course Route 66’s own classic apparel.

In the recent years Route 66 has hosted events such as The Peek-a-Boo parade  & WolfCall festival. The Peek-a-Boo parade held at Melbourne’s Ding Dong lounge & The Prince of Wales is a night of bands, burlesque, shopping & of course a fashion parade showcasing national & international labels new ranges. The peek-a-boo event is for ladies only & is full of fun, frills & fancies.
Route 66’s Prahran ‘Garage’ location also hosts instore gigs for interstate bands quite frequently so keep your peepers on the gig guide. One HUGE instore was the international Reverend Horton Heat & Paladins 1st shows in Australia. Playing a rock’ em sock’ em show the guys were kind enough  to hang out for the hours that followed signing posters & drinking with all who turned up.
Route 66 threads are currently working their way around the world, with stores in Australia, Europe, Asia and the good ol’ US of A, are revving their motors to stock the Route 66 name.
